Applied Linguistics The term "applied linguistics" emerged in the 1920s and terminologically combined various developments in the practical use of theoretical knowledge of language. For us, applied linguistics (PL) is a line of linguistics that is engaged in the development of methods for solving practical problems related to the use of language, which is especially relevant in the modern scientific and technological development of society, which is accompanied by the rapid development of information arrays. There is a growing need to train specialists capable of solving tasks in the field of information processing and information retrieval in different languages. Specialists in PL are required to provide practical work and research in the following main areas: selection of language material to improve language teaching and language testing; adequate translation of texts into a foreign language form (translation); unification and standardization of scientific and technical terminology; lexicography; processing of different types of texts (scientific, technical, business, oral and written); standardization of terminology; creation of thesauruses etc. The main purpose of PL is to develop different technologies for language processing in different areas of public life. Among the following industries are: education (language teaching methods - linguistics, vocabulary writing - lexicography); international relations (translation of texts - oral and written); media, publishing (editing); military affairs (cryptography, basic control of works, cartography); science (analytical and synthetic text processing: indexing, annotation, abstracting, preparation of reviews; terminography (including nomenclature creation; information search); services, industry (dialogues - written and oral, advertising of goods and services); jurisprudence (linguistic expertise); state building (spelling, spelling, lexicography, language foundations); politics (political advertising); computerized word processing (creation of word banks). Applied linguistics is a branch of linguistics that develops language processing technologies (traditional, ie non-automated, and automated) for various areas of social life. EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS 035.10 Applied Linguistics A special place in the work of the department belongs to the All-Ukrainian Conference of Young Scientists "Applied Linguistics: Problems and Solutions", which has been regularly attended by young scientists from all regions of Ukraine since 2005. The lecturers of the department take part in the work of international and Ukrainian scientific and professional organizations: TESOL, TESOL-Ukraine, IATEFL-Ukraine, Ukrainian Association of Cognitive Linguistics and Poetics. During its formation and development, the department cooperated with various institutions of higher education of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Language and Information Foundation of the NAS of Ukraine, the Institute of Ukrainian Language of the NAS of Ukraine, and the Institute of Philology of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. The Department of Applied Linguistics is involved in international co-operation: in particular, participation in the British Council-NATO Officers Retraining Project (English Language Teaching 2004-2014), participation in the European Union VSEEP Energy Saving and Energy Supply Program, Pearson Collaboration. The department established the International PTE Test Center (Pearson Test of English) - certificate issued by Pearson Longman Test London, OK, Center number 87309. The department is actively involved in the training of future specialists in applied linguistics for Turkmenistan, Nigeria, Cameroon, People's Republic of China. Teachers and students of the specialty "Applied Linguistics" are active participants in the project of the National University of Shipbuilding in China. Lecturers and graduates are invited to teach ESP (ESP) at higher education institutions in the PRC (Candidate of Philology, Assoc. Prof. NU Chernitsky VB, Tubaltseva SA, Tzitsyura KV, off. O. Ovsyanitskaya). The Department of Applied Linguistics is the official organizer of the regional round of the International Linguistics Olympiad in the Mykolayiv region: The International Linguistics Olympiad is one of the 13 international subject Olympiads involved in competitions all over the world. The department conducts an active extracurricular work: the student club FLASH, the student theater "Small stage" is created. The Admiral Makarov Department of Applied Linguistics of the National University of Shipbuilding constantly conducts various activities to expand its activities in the educational services market.
