As part of international cooperation and the development of the UCPBL project, a delegation from Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding paid a working visit to Aalborg University (AAU) in Denmark. This institution is one of the world’s leading centers specializing in the implementation of the problem-based learning (PBL) model
The Ukrainian delegation included Mykhailo Mykhailov, Vice Rector for Academic and Pedagogical Affairs and International Activities; Vyacheslav Ivata, Dean of the Faculty of Marine Economics and Ecology; Ivan Bilyuk, Head of the Department of Automation; Tetiana Moroz, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Philology; and Hanna Yefimova, Associate Dean for Research at the Faculty of Marine Economics and Ecology.
The highlight of the trip was the official meeting of the NUOS-UCPBL collaboration team. During the discussions, the parties focused on practical tools for implementing the PBL model into the educational process at NUOS and identified strategic directions for future joint work. The delegates also gained detailed insight into the activities of the BUILD and ENERGY departments, where they studied European practices in organizing learning spaces while interacting with Danish colleagues and students
The key practical component of the program was the “AAU Learning Day” intensive workshop held at the INNOVATE innovation center. The event’s program focused on transforming teaching skills through modern digital technologies in two main areas:
Digitalization: participants mastered methods for integrating podcasts and videocasts as effective tools into the modern educational process.
Pedagogical transformation: special attention was paid to updated PBL principles, the analysis of complex pedagogical cases, and the specifics of implementing this model in higher education.
A particularly important part of the visit was a series of meetings with Ukrainian engineering students Volodymyr Ivanov and Andriy Fedorov, who are currently studying in Denmark. These discussions provided valuable feedback on how Ukrainian students are adapting to European educational standards.
This visit opens up new prospects for modernizing the educational programs at Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding. The experience gained will strengthen the faculty’s capabilities and lay a solid foundation for the university’s further integration into the global European space.
